Companies looking to purchase sustainable products, plants, and materials for outdoor spaces can now also turn to NL Greenlabel for financial support. NL Greenlabel is committed to creating sustainable outdoor spaces and was included in the MIA/Vamil scheme as of January 1, 2014. This makes it possible to design sustainable outdoor spaces in a tax-efficient manner using certified products, plants, and materials, such as paving, landscaping, fencing, sustainable energy systems, and lighting. NL Greenlabel’s inclusion in the MIA/Vamil scheme is partly due to the efforts of Royal HaskoningDHV.
The Netherlands Enterprise Agency administers the MIA (Environmental Investment Deduction) and Vamil (Discretionary Depreciation of Environmental Investments) programs. As of January 1, 2014, the Environmental List for these programs includes products, plants, and materials for outdoor spaces that have been certified by NL Greenlabel. For the most sustainable products—those with an A or B label—a 75% arbitrary depreciation and a 27% tax deduction on investment costs are available. For some 80 businesses—partners of NL Greenlabel—this provides support and serves as an incentive to continue innovating for sustainable outdoor spaces. These businesses come from sectors such as construction, energy, infrastructure, landscaping, metal, wood, stone, knowledge, and services. Greenwall, with its Label B sustainability passport, also qualifies under this program.
NL Greenlabel was founded by world-renowned garden and landscape designer Nico Wissing and TV gardener Lodewijk Hoekstra in close collaboration with Royal HaskoningDHV. Their goal is to promote the use of sustainable materials and products, thereby making vibrant and sustainable outdoor spaces the norm. While the desire to use sustainable products is often present, NL Greenlabel helps make that a reality and quantifiable. NL Greenlabel brings together citizens, policymakers, the business community, and scientists to foster fruitful collaboration in the field of sustainable outdoor space development.
For NL Greenlabel, Royal HaskoningDHV developed a method that provides an at-a-glance overview of the overall sustainability score of a product, material, plant, or project for outdoor spaces. That score is represented by a label—ranging from A (most sustainable) to G—and the method includes a sustainability passport.
